Mountain Biking Essentials

What you'll learn

Enviroment and Equipment

We start with a quick check of the weather, trails, and features, then look over clothing and helmets. Bikes are fitted, sized, and safety-checked with the M-check or ABCDQ. Finally, we confirm when, where, who, and what.

Develop and Demonstrate

We build confidence by practicing braking, gears, and bike control. Riders learn how to cover brakes, shift smoothly, and use body position to stay balanced. Through games and drills, you’ll develop key skills and demonstrate them on the trail.

Apply skills

We practice riding in groups with safe spacing, stopping at intersections, and what to do if separated. Riders learn basic emergency steps and comms before progressing through Grade 1 and 2 trails to apply braking, gears, body position, and trail scanning.

Build Confidence

We celebrate progress while practicing on new Grade 2 trails. Riders explore momentum, berms, and turning, with insights into local nature and history. At Grade 3, we focus on stronger control, body separation, wooden features, and safe jump progression.

Future Progression

We look ahead to your MTB journey with guidance on skills progression, new riding locations, and local community groups. Riders learn about the minimum gear needed — bike, helmet, comms, repair kit, and first aid — to stay safe and keep the sport accessible.
