Welcome to the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey Section. Congratulations for making it this far! If you are a direct Gold entrant, welcome on board! You are showing real growth and determination to complete something that demonstrates your ability to commit to something challenging and see it through.
An expedition is an assessed venture that is in the same mode of transport to that done for the practice journey. Group members should be of similar age and level of experience within groups of 4 to 7. At Gold level the requirements are: Practice Journey – 3 days and 2 nights with 8 hours of activity during the day. Qualifying Journey – 4 days and 3 nights with at least 8 hours of activity during the day. To make a booking select an event from the calendar and follow the process. Please note: Direct Gold entrants must have completed their Bronze and Silver Training and Practice Journey before undertaking their Gold Training and Practice and Qualifying Journeys. |

This is a combined event. Some of the training is delivered on the practice tramp. You can sign up for separate training or practice events if preferred. We combine our training and practice events for two reasons.
The Gold training and practice includes emergency survival as well as some challenging (and fun) off track navigation. Our training and practice aims to extend your knowledge in the following topics:
Training Location: AdventureWorks Challenge Course Mount Albert Unitec Campus 139 Carrington Road Turn right soon after entering Gate 3. Duration: 1 day – 9:00am to 4:00pm Practice Tramp Location: Varies due to recent park closures Duration: 3 days Cost: $385 + booking fee Minimum number of participants is 5. |
Gold JourneyStudents must have completed their Gold Training and Practice before undertaking their Gold Journey.
Most of our gold journey happen in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest and we have run Gold journeys in the central plateau. At the moment the Waitakere Ranges are closed so we are unable to facilitate journeys at that location. Students will be staying at different locations each night. Participants will need to complete a Tramping Route Card on their Gold Qualifying Journey. Location: Kaimais, Tongariro, Great Barrier Duration: 4 days Cost: $430 + booking fee Minimum number of participants is 5. (For the Kaimais, Tongariro and Great Barrier there will be additional hut fees, transport and possibly a night at a hostel before the tramp) |
