Gold Adventurous Journey
Welcome to the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey Section. Congratulations for making it this far! If you are a direct Gold entrant, welcome on board! You are showing real growth and determination to complete something that demonstrates your ability to commit to something challenging and see it through.
An expedition is an assessed venture that is in the same mode of transport to that done for the practice journey. Group members should be of similar age and level of experience within groups of 4 to 7. At Gold level the requirements to complete the adventurous journey are: Practice Journey – 3 days and 2 nights with 8 hours of activity during the day. Qualifying Journey – 4 days and 3 nights with at least 8 hours of activity during the day. You can complete the adventurous journey section in sea kayaking or tramping. However to complete the qualifying journey is one mode you have to do the practice journey in the same mode. To make a booking select an event from the calendar and follow the process. Please note: Direct Gold entrants must have completed their Bronze and Silver Training and Practice Journey before undertaking their Gold Training and Practice and Qualifying Journeys. |
Gold Adventurous Journey Tramping
Training and PracticeThis is a combined event. Some of the training is delivered on the practice tramp. You can sign up for separate training or practice events if preferred.
We combine our training and practice events for two reasons.
The Gold training and practice includes emergency survival as well as some challenging (and fun) off track navigation. Training Location: AdventureWorks Challenge Course Mount Albert Unitec Campus Building 41 Turn right soon after entering Gate 3. Duration: 1 day – 9:00am to 4:00pm Practice Tramp Location: Varies due to recent park closures Duration: 3 days Cost: $415 + booking fee Minimum number of participants is 6. |
Gold Journey KaimaisThis is our most popular Gold Journey. This is a challenging four day tramp that includes a combination of huts and wilderness campsites. Some of the tracks are well-established and some are more adventurous.

Gold Journey Around Mount Taranaki
This is truly an epic 5 day adventure!
Day one Leaving AdventureWorks early on the first day, driving approximately six hours to the start of the track. Walking the first day for approximately three hours. Day two another warmup day approximately 7 hours day three approximately 8 to 9 hours day four approximately 7 to 8 hours day five approximately 1 hour and then driving home. There are huts all the way around, however they are not bookable so we need to be ready for sleeping outside. This is a challenging tramp which would make a fantastic finishing of a gold award! |
Gold Training and Practice Sea Kayaking
Training and PracticeTraining and practice is delivered in the Auckland region.
Training: location: AdventureWorks this day is a overall event planning and preparation day and includes clothing and equipment preparation, navigation skills and environmental awareness. Practice location: Hauraki Gulf this is a three day/ two overnight practice trip. The purpose of this trip is to become familiar with operating a kayak, how to pack it, understanding personal and group responsibility for safety, establishing systems for leadership and camp management. Cost: $525 Journey:
Location: Hauraki Gulf this is a four day, three overnight trip. There are a variety of campsite options available. The decision about where to stay and where to go will be made by the instructor and the group depending on whether variables and group fitness (which will be established during the practice event) Cost: $575 + booking fee. Cost includes transport, accommodation and kayaking equipment. Students need to provide their own personal equipment and food To complete the gold journey you must have attended the gold training and practice in sea kayaking |

We will provide an experienced instructor plus all of the safety planning and full support during the event.
