- rOCK CLIMBING LEVEL 2 AND 3This course will as an introduction to rock climbing. Rockclimbing is a popular recreation and social activity that can be enjoyed indoors or outdoors. Students will learn about safe use of equipment, how to warm up and basic climbing technique. Students will also gain an understanding of the type of various types of equipment used rockclimbing. The course can be delivered indoors or outdoors depending on the weather

This course will introduce students to set up and maintain a mountain bike, skills to ride safely on mountain biking tracks and how to look after yourself and others while on recreational rides. Students will also learn strategies and techniques for planning and preparing for learning in the future

Students will need to know how to ride a bike Level 2 and 3 can be delivered together

COST $360 (min 8)Overnight Camping Level 2 or 3This is an introductory course for overnight tramping and camping. Students will spend a day at our base learning skills and gaining knowledge in order to prepare themselves to go overnight camping. During the day students learn about the equipment and are issued with their overnight camping gear, learn about food and nutrition and prepare for an overnight camp. The next day they get out for a introductory overnight camp including walking with a pack and sleeping in a tent at a campsite. Students will cook their own meals on camp cookers. (All camping equipment is provided including boots, pack, sleeping bag, tent, gas cooker and raincoat)

COST. $360Outdoor Recreation TERTIARY Taster Course Level 3This course is designed to give students a taste of three different outdoor recreation activities. The activities could include mountain biking, sea kayaking, tramping and camping, or high ropes course. The activities chosen will depend on the time of the year, the type of group and the weather.
This is a introductory level experience for people that don't have a lot of outdoor experience.
All outdoor equipment is provided including sea kayaks, mountain bikes, overnight tramping equipment such as tent, sleeping bag, cooking equipment, tramping pack et cetera.
We will get out of Auckland and enjoy some of the best recreation areas that are easily accessible from Auckland.
This also serves as a very good taster for our diploma in outdoor in adventure education.

COST. $875Sea Kayaking Level 2This is an introductory course for students to experience sea kayaking on the Hauraki Gulf. The first day is learning about the equipment and skills and knowledge to be safe in a kayak. Day two and three as an overnight kayaking and camping experience. The course is designed for novice and beginner kayakers to experience a popular recreation activity.
All equipment including kayaking and overnight camping equipment is provided.

Unit standard resources to purchase
We have developed assessment resources for some of the new unit standards that have been introduced by Skills Active in the Outdoor Recreation domain.
These unit standards primarily complement Level 3 outdoor education programmes.
- 28516 and 28511 support students participation in activities.
- 31537 and 31538 support students who have responsibilities leading junior students
To use these resources the school will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with AdventureWorks. We will provide the student assessment resource and assessor guide.
The school is responsible for ensuring students have appropriate support and experiences to be able to complete unit standards.
- The teacher delivers the content to the students according to the assessor guide.
- At the end of the unit standard the teacher makes an assessment judgement. This is then sent back to AdventureWorks for the final assessment decision and moderation.
- On completion of moderation, AdventureWorks will provide a final assessment outcome and the school enters this on the framework using our provider code.

Employment Skills
- Traditionally, AdventureWorks has been identified as an outdoor recreation provider for students interested in sports and outdoor recreation. However, AdventureWorks has broadened its offerings, and is now developing and delivering programmes for a range of students based on developing core employment skills.
Students that need to develop communication, team contribution, goal setting, interpersonal communication and self confidence. These students do not need to be skilled in, or wanting to develop, outdoor recreation skills. - Communication Ninja

Secondary Tertiary Transition Trades Academy
- AdventureWorks Secondary Tertiary Transition programs provide students an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, skills and experience in a particular vocational area. Students have an opportunity to experience the possibilities of future study and work in the chosen career area and gain unit standards that will contribute towards NCEA. AdventureWorks Tutors are specifically selected for their ability to provide an engaging and interesting learning program as well as their previous industry experience and passion to share with our students.
Our Secondary Tertiary Transition programs are delivered under a 4+1 model. This means students attend four days at their regular school and one day per week with us at our campus in Mt Albert. - NZ cert outdoor experiences (level 3, 40 credits)This is a unique opportunity for outdoor lovers to join us one day per week and gain a full New Zealand certificate while at school.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand with individuals who can safely and effectively participate in outdoor experiences.
It will provide a diverse range of workplaces, communities, and education organisations with graduates who hold the essential technical skills needed to maintain own personal safety while undertaking outdoor experiences in familiar environments which are low risk, low technical.
Graduates are only able to operate under the direct supervision and guidance of an outdoor leader or instructor.Graduates of this qualification will be able to:- Prepare for their own outdoor experience, taking into account equipment, weather, terrain and logistic requirements
- Operate under a framework of tiakitanga that includes respect for the tikanga and kawa of local iwi or hapū, sustainability and the environment while undertaking an outdoor experience
- Manage self safely while undertaking their own outdoor experience including meeting requirements for food, water, and equipment in low-technical, low-risk environments
- Demonstrate personal competency to participate in specific outdoor recreation activities in the outdoor environment

- Adventure based learning courses are designed to engage students in a practical and experiential program using our challenge course as the medium for delivering valuable learning outcomes to a range of abilities. We use challenge by choice which means students challenge themselves to the degree they see as appropriate, whilst supporting others to challenge themselves.
- Adventure Learning Level 2
Students will learn about communication, leadership and how to be a member of a team with an objective. The objective is supporting each other to challenge themselves in a safe environment acknowledging individual differences.
