Outdoor Recreation and Education
AdventureWorks specialise in experiential learning and adventure centered outdoor education in the Auckland and Waikato regions. We are more than an outdoor education provider – we use adventurous activities and outdoor environments to develop people and groups. Our style of education especially supports the key competencies: Relating to Others, Managing Self, Participating and Contributing and Thinking.
Secondary Tertiary Transition
4+1, Full Year, 25-40 credits
AdventureWorks Secondary Tertiary Transition programs provide students an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, skills and experience in a particular vocational area. Students have an opportunity to experience the possibilities of future study and work in the chosen career area and gain unit standards that will contribute towards NCEA. AdventureWorks Tutors are specifically selected for their ability to provide an engaging and interesting learning program as well as their previous industry experience and passion to share with our students.
Our Secondary Tertiary Transition programs are delivered under a 4+1 model. This means students attend four days at their regular school and one day per week with us at our campus in Mt Albert.

NZ cert outdoor experiences (level 3, 40 credits)
This is a unique opportunity for outdoor lovers to join us one day per week and gain a full New Zealand certificate while at school.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand with individuals who can safely and effectively participate in outdoor experiences.
It will provide a diverse range of workplaces, communities, and education organisations with graduates who hold the essential technical skills needed to maintain own personal safety while undertaking outdoor experiences in familiar environments which are low risk, low technical. Graduates are only able to operate under the direct supervision and guidance of an outdoor leader or instructor. Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

sport health and recreation
This course would suit students who are looking to enter sporting, fitness careers or the uniformed services. If you love to stay fit and healthy and would like a practical course that will introduce you to a range of different physical careers.
Topics will include:
recreation, coaching, personal training. Entry level roles in gyms and fitness centres. |

police preparation
This programme gives students the opportunity to explore the physical and leadership requirements of being a Police Officer.
Students will make use of the AdventureWorks challenge course facilities to develop leadership, teamwork and physical skills. They will also attend field trips related to policing roles.

Unit Standard short courses (STAR, Gateway)
All of these courses can be completed either through school group bookings or as an individual in our open events
A Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource (STAR) course introduces secondary school students to training for a specific career or study at tertiary level. STAR courses are short and are only available through polytechnics and private training organisations. Students participate in short-term courses or ‘taster courses’ for a few days at a time, or one day per week for several weeks; and longer-term courses leading into Gateway.
adventure learning level 2
Learn about communication, leadership and how to be a member of a team with an objective. The objective is supporting each other to challenge themselves in a safe environment acknowledging individual differences.
This is a rewarding course that will leave you excited about new opportunities that you may be able to see for yourself with greater confidence and understanding of the way you approach challenging tasks. You will set goals and challenge yourself to the degree you see is appropriate, whilst supporting others. This course is based at the AdventureWorks challenge course located at our base in Mt Albert. |

team leadership level 3
This course explores the concept and experience of leadership, whilst participating in a group on our challenge course. You will learn about leadership theory, group roles and communication in an applied and experiential way. Groups and individuals will set goals and complete initiative and problem-solving activities as well as having a go at challenging yourself on the high ropes within a supportive group

mountain bike level 2 and 3
Mountain biking level 2
this course will introduce you to how to set up and maintain a mountain bike, skills to ride safely on mountain biking tracks and how to look after yourself and others while in recreational rides. You will also learn strategies and techniques for planning and preparing for learning in the future Mountain biking level 3 this course will develop your mountain biking knowledge and skills. You also prepare and implement a plan for health and well-being. These are practical courses |

tramping adventure LEVEL 2 AND 3
Level 2 Tramping
This course includes one day of training and preparation before going off on a three day, two night tramp. The tramp is set to the level of the group's competence designed for people to have a positive and rewarding experience. Sleeping will be in huts or tents depending on the location. Level 3 Tramping this course includes one day of training and preparation before going on a three day, two night tramp. This course includes learning how to keep yourself safe and survive in the bush and how to safely cross rivers. The tramp is set to the level of the group's competence and design for people have a positive and rewarding experience. |

COST: $500(approximate) Minimum 6 students All the tramping equipment students will require can be provided for a small fee. Including tent, pack, boots, sleeping bag, pots and cooker, clothing, rain jacket student equipment will be evaluated on the training day. If students need extra equipment we can provide this. Transport and hut/camping fees are included. |

These courses are designed to give students a opportunity to experience success learning in a student centred and experiential learning environment. We know that students that sometimes find classroom environments challenging, will thrive in active context with engaging tutors and a supportive group. This is what we do best!

This course is designed for level II students to develop personal effectiveness, self-awareness and skills for future work and learning. The program will be delivered with a combination of outdoor activities enhancing the learning and reinforcing the outcomes.
