I’m about to head into the wilderness for almost 3 weeks which has provided me with some inspiration for this weeks blog..make sure that not only do you have the gear that you need when heading into the outdoors, but also make sure you know how to use it!
We have been lucky enough to get a bunch of new gear at AdventureWorks including some gear that I haven’t used before and am keen to have a play with. This sparked something in my mind..on DoE hikes, especially the bronze hikes, I regularly see students turn up with gear they haven’t used before. This is not a bad thing as you have the instructors there to support and guide you, we are always keen to teach someone how to use a piece of outdoors equipment, it makes us feel useful, and knowledgeable:)
However, if you are borrowing a piece of equipment from a friends, from AdventureWorks or perhaps you have been lucky enough to talk your parents into buying you something like a new pack, tent or cooker, make sure you figure out how it works or give it a test run before heading off on your trip. It’s always helpful to know exactly what your piece of equipment can do and how it works. Google is an amazing thing in this day and age so if you’re unsure.. google it! Believe me, you don’t want to be this guy!!!
