AWNZ’s Director, Liz Penman, has a very strong background in:- Education, primarily in the outdoor, physical, and health education fields at secondary and tertiary levels;
- Management and operation of challenge ropes courses;
- Development and implementation of a wide variety of adventure based learning programmes with a range of client groups;
- Delivery of facilitation and technical skills training.

Liz has an immense depth of experience working with diverse groups from the education, community and corporate sectors. Originally a teacher of physical education, health education and outdoor education for 10 years back in the 80's, since 1992 Liz has run her own successful business and as a Certified Trainer with Project Adventure, has worked extensively with groups throughout New Zealand and also in Singapore, Korea, Japan, Italy and the United States. Her particular interests include promoting the safe and effective use of ropes courses and the design and implementation of effective and quality adventure based learning programmes.
Liz is also a Skills Active Assessor with a scope including Adventure Based Learning, Outdoor Management and Interpersonal Communications domains and has served on a number of panels with responsibility for writing and reviewing adventure based learning unit standards and assessment guidelines.
In summary, Liz’s experience is well recognised and respected within the adventure education and training industry and she is passionate about providing quality programmes and safe yet stimulating experiences for clients using experiential learning.
